Overview:
This position requires a strong background in the Linux operating system, preferably with Linux server administration. As new technologies emerge and impact our systems, the Linux System Administrator is expected to learn these technologies very quickly and resolve any problems involved in integrating new technologies with our systems. The Linux System Administrator is a key technical resource for other Senior Staff, providing advice, training, and technical support for various projects. In addition, the Linux System Administrator works closely with professional technical staff in the IT management team in evaluating current systems and making decisions on future development.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related fields or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) certification.
• Extensive experience working with at least one variant of Linux.
• Previous programming or scripting experience.
• Ability and motivation to learn new technologies quickly and with minimal support and guidance
• Effective communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff
• Ability to work productively in teams

• Good problem solver.

Preferred:

• Proficiency with Linux (e.g. Red Hat, CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu), Solaris, and MacOS machines.
• Good understanding and experience with administration of E-mail servers such as Sendmail, Postfix, and Qmail.
• Proficiency with database servers such as Oracle, Postgres, and MySQL; and web servers such as Apache, Tomcat, and Nginix.
• Good knowledge of deployment, optimization, and scaling of Linux/Apache/MySQl/PHP (LAMP) Systems.
• Programming and scripting ability (Perl, Python, Borne shell, Expect, Java, etc.).
• Good knowledge of Linux systems and program installation, compilation, and configuration.
• Good understanding of system-level security procedures, familiarity with cryptography tools e.g. ssh, ipsec, gpg/pgp, OpenSSL.
• Experience maintaining servers for standard Internet services such as DNS, web, mail, and FTP.
• Good understanding of virtualization technologies such as VmWare ESXi, Xen, and Virtual Box.
• Good knowledge on DNS and Cisco routers.
• Experience hardening servers, configuring firewalls, and implementing general best business security practices.
• Good command of spoken and written English.
