Windows and SQL Specialist

Primary Responsibilities:
1. To deploy and support systems.
2. Perform all activities as defined by the Quality Management System.
Specific Responsibilities:
Provide a robust, effective and high quality delivery of designated company products and associated services for the applicable environments in a manner which supports the Company's revenue objectives. This will be achieved by addressing the following activities:
Control
1. Monitor and report progress against allocated tasks.
Supervisory
1. Deputise for the Manager / Team Leader when necessary.
Technical
1. Provide technical information and support to relevant internal departments and external organisations.
2. Provide coaching, advice and guidance to relevant internal departments and external organisations.
3. Acquire and maintain specialist knowledge of designated company products and the relevant RDBMS, ODBC, operating systems, networks, mail systems, internet / intranet specific issues.
Deployment
Perform the following activities as directed by the Department Manager:
1. Install associated third party software as scheduled by your reporting manager, in accordance with specified procedures.
2. Monitor, investigate and resolve support calls for all customers within the allocated area of responsibility. Calls will include:
• Application and database upgrade requests
• Connectivity issues
• Software functionality issues
• System performance
• Backup procedures
• Technical queries
• Documentation requests.
3. Provide performance tuning expertise and services, recommending a solution where necessary.
4. Contribute in a flexible manner to the successful completion of all projects undertaken.
5. Prepared to work ‘flexible hours covering UK and USA with the possibility of working on a shift basis with on call support.

Knowledge and Experience:
Essential
1. Excellent knowledge and skills using latest Linux SUSE or REDHAT O/S, Windows Server O/S and MS SQL Server 2005 or later versions.
2. Must have up to date knowledge of technologies relevant to the RDBMS, operating systems, networks, mail systems and internet environments.
3. Must be able to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel.
4. Must be able to schedule and manage own projects and tasks.
Beneficial
5. A sound working knowledge of Unix specifically IBM AIX or Oracle RDBMS.
6. A knowledge of Java, Jboss systems and their deployment.
7. Working in a hosted or ASP environment.
8. Utilisation of FTP / HTML / UNIX scripting.
9. Knowledge of the Resourcelink system and/or associated web components.
